What we collect, and why
Contact and enquiry forms
When you send us a message through a form on this site, we collect the details you type into it — typically your name, email address, and whatever you tell us about your project. We use that information only to reply to you and to discuss the work. Form submissions are stored in this website’s database and are also emailed to us.
Newsletter
If you sign up for our newsletter, we collect your email address and pass it to Mailchimp, the service we use to send email. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any newsletter, or by emailing us.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use this site — for example, which pages get read and which links get clicked. This is collected in aggregate. Google sets cookies to do this, and Google processes that data on its own terms. You can opt out using Google’s browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser.
Orders and payments
If you buy something through this site, we collect the details needed to process and fulfil the order, including your name, billing and contact details. Card payments are handled by our payment provider — we do not store full card numbers.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This site uses them to keep the site working correctly, to remember your preferences, and for the analytics described above. You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings; some parts of the site may not work properly if you do.
Comments
If you leave a comment on a post, we store the comment, your name, email address and IP address, along with an anonymised string created from your email address (a hash) which may be passed to the Gravatar service to show your avatar.
Confidentiality of client work
Ghostwriting is confidential by nature. Material you send us as part of a project — manuscripts, briefs, notes, research, recordings — is used only to carry out that project. We do not publish it, sell it, or use it as a sample without your written permission, and we will sign a non-disclosure agreement on request.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that make this site and our business run — our web host, our email and newsletter provider, our analytics provider, and our payment processor — and only to the extent they need it to provide that service. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Enquiries and project correspondence are kept for as long as we have an active or prospective working relationship, and afterwards for as long as we need them for tax, accounting or legal reasons. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so follow-up comments can be recognised and approved automatically.
Your rights
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email info@inkintheshadows.com and we will respond. Deletion does not apply to information we are required to keep for administrative, legal or security purposes.
Children
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
